Description
This study examines the tension between strict geometry and deliberately painterly execution.
A tall, narrow format is divided by two pale, Neapolitan yellow vertical stripes, which divide the black field into a wide central area and narrow outer sections and thus create a balanced rhythm across the entire surface.
The Neapolitan yellow is applied thinly and transparently, while the black is built up more strongly, with impasto-like passages and visible painterly variations.
Sharply defined borders keep these contrasting areas within a controlled structure.
The work was executed with pure pigments on a standard canvas with a stretcher frame, was conceived as a study and is therefore offered at a particularly affordable price.
The painted sides continue the work beyond the front; additional framing is not recommended.

Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
