Description
A strong contrast shapes this composition. Massive black forms cut through the bright surface.
The line work appears resolute. The dark segments stand next to each other almost architecturally. A tense rhythm emerges from emptiness and fullness. The color black is not flat. Nuances in the texture lend depth to the surfaces.
A play of light and shadow unfolds in the dark areas. The edges are sharply drawn. At the same time, the arrangement appears organic. It recalls wide shadows or urban silhouettes. The balance between stability and movement is maintained.
The light background functions as a calm point. It allows the geometric hardness of the forms to breathe. The canvas becomes a space for visual tension. The reduction to two colors increases the intensity. Each line sets a conscious accent. It is a study of proportions and weight.
The work exudes a timeless clarity. The composition leads the eye in a vertical movement across the entire surface. A precise interplay of form and plane.
The painting is constructed from numerous thin layers of paint, which consist of high-quality pigments in an acrylic dispersion.
The black, pastose areas consist of thicker layers of pigment.
High-quality, Belgian linen, primed by the artist himself, is used as the canvas, whose structure remains clearly visible under the thin layers.
It is delivered on a stable wooden stretcher frame. The sides are painted so that no additional frame is required.
The painting is ready to hang.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
