Hilary Dymond

United Kingdom Born in: 1953

Hilary Dymond was born in 1953 in Blackwood (Wales).

Hilary Dymond wanted to become a painter, but learning to paint was difficult, first because of family mistrust and then especially in France, because after this movement of pictorial introspection, this division by zero, we no longer wanted see her, painting. The 1990s were acquired in installation, video art, concept, relational art. Everything except painting. Without transgressing anything - a will that we have been able to lend him - but against the grain, Hilary Dymond painted. The adversity has been strong. But she knew what she wanted. The English have a word for that, stubborn. She has developed serial work, in all formats. On this point, it is customary to say that large formats require large movements inducing a relationship with the body, and small, conscientious and precise, with the mind. In serial work, exhaustion, whether physical or mental, him. The exhaustion of the subject, above all.

Paint until the subject is exhausted, too. And there have been some proven subjects: the Fields (1995-2000), the Close-ups (1999-2001), the Lakes (2003-2005), the Mountains (2003-2006), the Coast (008 -2009), Venice (2010-2013) and finally Winter Path and Mediterranean. And with each series, the same process. The choice of the subject, the immersion in nature, then the work in the workshop. And it is not of a static nature that it is. The wind passing through the grass, a darkening sky, the reflection of the fleeting passage of a cloud in the reflection of water… Hilary Dymond paints a nature in transition, a state in the process of passing. To the noise and the allegro of man, Hilary prefers the silence and the piano of nature. A silent painting, only disturbed by the ebb and flow of the waves or the breath of the wind.
