Description
This artwork commands attention through its minimalist yet profoundly thought-provoking design, illustrating the seamless fusion of simplicity and depth. At the heart of the piece lies a pristine, white circular expanse, creating a central focal point that irresistibly draws the viewer's gaze. Encircling this immaculate void are evenly spaced, slender black lines. Their precise arrangement radiates a contemplative rhythm, evocative of clock hands or the rays of an abstract sun. The background, a subtle gradient of varying gray tones, cleverly manipulates the perception of depth and space. It contrasts elegantly with the stark purity of the central circle and its accompanying radiating lines, enhancing the overall visual impact. The interplay between light and shadow within this gradient adds a layer of mystery, inviting a deeper reflection on the balance between light and darkness, presence and absence. Executed with a masterful precision, this artwork transcends mere aesthetic appeal, delving into conceptual realms. It compels observers to ponder themes of time, infinity, and the cyclical nature of existence. This piece stands as a testament to the potency of geometric abstraction, where simplicity breeds complexity, making it a remarkable and unforgettable work of art.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
