Description

This captivating piece of art commands attention with its intricate textural and visual depth. At first glance, the painting presents a harmonious, yet chaotic interplay of colors and textures, drawing the viewer into a complex visual experience. Centered on the canvas, a series of meticulously curved, parallel lines dominate the composition. These undulating arcs evoke a sense of rhythm and movement, reminiscent of sound waves or ripples on water. The lines are not smooth and uniform; they exhibit variations in width and texture, suggesting an almost topographical representation. This variation is further accentuated by the subtle, yet deliberate, use of color, which ranges from earthy browns and muted grays to hints of mauve and green. These colors blend seamlessly, yet distinctly, enhancing the three-dimensional quality of the lines and their surroundings. The background of the artwork is equally intriguing. It is composed of layers upon layers of paint that create an illusion of depth. The underlayers subtly peek through the surface, adding complexity and mystery to the piece. This layered approach gives the background a weathered, almost ancient feel, as if the canvas has witnessed the passage of time. What sets this artwork apart is its tactile quality. The artist’s technique involves scraping and layering, creating a surface that is rich in texture. This physicality invites viewers not only to look but to imagine the sensation of touching the surface, transforming the viewing experience into a multisensory one. This artwork is an exemplary study in balance and contrast. The structured, repetitive lines contrast with the organic, almost chaotic nature of the background. Yet, both elements coexist in a harmonious dance, creating a balanced composition that is both intellectually stimulating and aesthetically pleasing. In conclusion, this painting is an outstanding testament to the power of texture, color, and form. It challenges the viewer to look beyond the surface, encouraging a deeper engagement with the artwork and evoking a sense of timelessness and contemplation. This piece is not just to be seen, but to be experienced on multiple sensory levels.

Presentation

My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.

Statement

Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.

My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
