Description
A dense material is required here. The gaze gets lost in a tormented relief, where the artist works the surface with vigor. Each gesture leaves a deep trace, while the paint accumulates and fragments.
The tones remain sober. Gray dominates, crossed by subtle nuances of mauve and green. The whole evokes a semi-abstract landscape, in which a forest enveloped in mist is discernible.
The light glides over the crests of material, highlighting the contrasts between the smooth areas and the more tormented surfaces. The lower part seems to fade, while vertical lines suggest tree trunks and a natural flow movement.
This composition plays on the tactile sensation. The relief creates a play of shadows that varies according to the viewing angle. The final rendering oscillates between brute force and organic fragility, while the discreet signature comes to close this chromatic exploration.
The work is made using a mixed technique combining notably oil, paper, collage, pigments, and earth.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
