Description
This painting depicts designs associated with the site of Papunya, est of Alice Springs. This site is related to a ngari, or honey ant dreaming. The fines lines in this work represent both the tracks of the honey ants and the sandhills which surround the site.
This site forms part of the Tingari song cycle. Since events associated with the Tingari cycle are of a secret nature non further detail was given. Generally, the Tingari cycle are a group of ancestral beings of the Dreaming who travelled over vast stretches of the country, performing rituals and creation and sharing particular sites.
The Tingari men were usually followed by Tingari women and were accompanied by novices, and their travels and adventures are enshrined in a number of song cycles. These ancestral stories form part of the teaching of the post initiatory youths today as wells providing explanations for contemporary customs.

Adam Gibbs Tjapaltjarri was born in the west camp at Papunya in 1964. He started painting for Papunya Tula Artists around 1991.
