“Blushing Lilies" — Original Contemporary Floral Oil Painting
“Blushing Lilies" is an original contemporary floral oil painting by French artist Natalya Mougenot, depicting vibrant water lilies floating across a lush, richly coloured pond. Painted with expressive layers of oil on canvas, the work captures the delicate beauty of the flowers while transforming the familiar water-lily scene into an energetic and emotional interpretation of nature.
The painting was inspired by Claude Monet's famous fascination with water lilies and his timeless exploration of light, water and reflections. Rather than imitating Monet, Natalya takes inspiration from his way of seeing nature as an emotional and atmospheric experience, reinterpreting the subject through her own contemporary, expressive language.
The composition is filled with deep greens, turquoise, emerald and blue tones, creating the impression of water, reflections and dense aquatic vegetation. Against this rich environment, the lilies appear in shades of crimson, burgundy, magenta, pink and warm coral, with touches of golden yellow illuminating their petals. The contrast makes the flowers seem to glow from within.
The title “Blushing Lilies" comes from the delicate pink and red tones of the flowers. Their petals appear almost as if they are blushing—soft, luminous and full of life. Each flower has its own character, created through spontaneous brushstrokes, layered colour and expressive marks rather than precise botanical detail.
Natalya does not seek to reproduce nature photographically. Instead, she interprets what she sees through emotion, colour and movement. The visible brushstrokes give the surface a sense of rhythm, while the energetic marks in the water and vegetation create the feeling of a living, constantly moving landscape.
The golden and peach-coloured strokes scattered throughout the composition suggest reflections of sunlight on the water. Deep shadows beneath the flowers add depth and make the lilies appear to float gently on the surface. The lower part of the painting becomes more expressive and textured, with vertical and diagonal strokes suggesting submerged plants, reflections and the mysterious world beneath the water.
As in Natalya's wider artistic practice, authenticity and freedom are at the heart of the work. She allows the painting process to remain visible, embracing imperfect forms, spontaneous gestures and unexpected colour combinations. Rather than carefully controlling every detail, she lets the brush respond intuitively to the feeling of the moment.
For Natalya, flowers are never simply decorative subjects. They represent beauty, vitality, fragility and the continuous movement of life. In Blushing Lilies, the flowers seem to emerge from the water like small bursts of colour and light, creating a peaceful yet intensely vibrant atmosphere.
The painting invites the viewer to pause and enter this colourful world—to feel the quiet surface of the water, the warmth of the reflected light and the delicate energy of flowers floating freely in nature.

Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
