Description

This dynamic artwork consists of two panels, each presenting a striking abstract composition on a bold black background. The left panel features an intriguing amalgamation of shapes and colors, with muted greys, whites, and hints of blue forming an organic cluster. This assembly conveys movement and depth, as if capturing a fleeting moment of transformation. In contrast, the right panel showcases a predominantly white silhouette, reminiscent of a figure in motion, flanked by splashes of grey and black. The juxtaposition of dark and light elements creates a powerful visual tension. Both pieces complement each other through their exploration of form and energy, inviting viewers to delve into the fluid interplay of abstraction and implied narrative. Together, they evoke a sense of mystery and evoke curiosity, prompting an introspective exploration of form and space.

The Anatomy of Rupture examines the body as a site where internal pressures—emotional, psychological, and mnemonic—break open into visible form. Through sculptural silhouettes fractured by mineral textures, floral intrusions, and geometric fissures, the series studies rupture not as destruction but as a structural revelation. Each image isolates a moment when the body can no longer contain its unseen tensions: cracks become channels of light, fragments turn into alternate anatomies, and the borders between organic and inorganic dissolve. These ruptures map the instability of selfhood, suggesting that identity is built not from coherence but from the shifting seams of what breaks, heals, and transforms. Ying Chen focus has been on photo collages. Using a collection of photos she selected for a theme, Chen aims to convey her state of mind in a deconstructed yet the whole picture.
