Otjitando is a Himba woman from the deserts of Namibia.  

She lives in a nomadic society and decorates her skin and hair with red mud.  Otjitando gazes confidently at the viewer, exuding strength and cultural pride. Her hair, styled in elongated, textured braids, frames her face symmetrically, enhancing the portrait's visual impact. Layered necklaces and a decorative chest piece further accentuate her regal presence, illustrating a connection to cultural heritage. 

The monochromatic palette heightens the photograph’s dramatic effect, focusing attention on the subject’s expressive features and elaborate adornments. This artwork transcends simple portrayal, capturing the essence of identity and tradition with exceptional clarity and depth.

John Kenny’s work is all shot on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa. His images are all taken with natural light and his subjects in their day to day attire. 

The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a contemporary look.
