Description
This striking artwork presents a monochromatic, x-ray-like image of an open book, floating against a deep black backdrop. The piece masterfully merges the physicality of a tangible object with the ethereal qualities of modern imaging techniques. On the left page, blurred text hints at incomplete narratives, inviting viewers to ponder the obscured content. The right page, however, captures attention with a hauntingly detailed depiction of a skeletal structure resembling angelic wings anchored to a spine. The juxtaposition of the cryptic text and anatomical imagery suggests themes of mystery, the metaphysical, and the intersection of knowledge and spirituality. The artwork challenges traditional perceptions of books as direct sources of information, transforming them into enigmatic symbols layered with meaning. The artist’s innovative use of negative space amplifies the spectral quality, evoking both the impermanence of corporeal form and the enduring nature of ideas. This piece stands out for its ability to provoke thought and introspection, making it a captivating addition to any contemporary art collection.
This project uses photograms, which are unique photographs created without a camera by placing objects on photosensitive paper and exposing it to light. The result is a negative shadow image varying in tone, depending on transparency of the objects used. Areas of the paper that have received no light appear light; those exposed through transparent or semi-transparent objects appear dark. Shine Huang uses everyday objects to create mysterious and impressive images. Huang focuses on adapting historical photographic processes into contemporary art. Many of his images are also a mirror that reflects the photographer's understanding of being an immigrant living in the United States. From Carry The Ocean Series Archival Pigment Print on Hahnemuhle fine art paper. Image size: 32 in. H x 40 in. W Edition 2/3 + 2AP Signed on verso in ink. unframed
