Description
Orquídea Paphiopedilum, 2021 by Miguel Winograd .Selenium-Toned Gelatin Silver Prints
From the series "Matas" 14 in H x 11 in W Edition 2/7 + 2AP Black and white Edition
Unframed
These photographs in the MATAS series may bring a Dionysian understanding of nature's complexity that surpasses the scientific, distant, and the binary way of approaching meaning. Representing the organic using the chemistry of light in an organic way is more reminiscent of the myth.
The artwork presents a striking black and white photograph of an orchid, specifically a Paphiopedilum, against a stark black background, accentuating its elegant form. The flower's unique structure is meticulously captured, with its pouch-like labellum at the center, flanked by gracefully arching petals and sepals. The texture of the petals, adorned with intricate speckles, adds depth and dimension, highlighting the natural beauty and complexity of the orchid. The monochromatic palette accentuates the contrasts between the velvety darkness and the flower's delicate surface, inviting the viewer to appreciate the intricate details and patterns. The composition is both symmetrical and dynamic, showcasing the harmony and balance inherent in nature. This photograph is a testament to the artist's skill in capturing both realism and abstract beauty, making it a timeless piece that celebrates the exquisite intricacies of botanical forms.
