Description
About the artist:
Navigating between photography, architecture and classical painting, the British artist Simon Procter began by immortalizing the majestic parades of fashion houses such as Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Lagerfeld, Prada, Stella McCartney. Conquered by his daring shots and the beauty of his work, the great creators opened the inaccessible doors of their worlds to him. Sometimes positioned at more than 100 meters in height, Simon Procter sublimates these events and the architecture of these monumental sites which are shaded, for a few hours, in the colors of the greatest luxury brands. The Grand Palais, the Opéra Garnier, the Carrousel du Louvre, the Cirque d'Hiver, Time Square etc. become places of staging where the creation and imagination of two artists converge.
About the work:
The concept of the exhibition was really interesting, a central space opened to reveal the creative team (hair, makeup) who contributed to the creation of the exhibition. But for me, there was no defining image that I could use. This is the first time I decided to rebuild the show almost entirely from scratch. Using a single point of view, I filmed the models as they passed by. It then took several weeks to position and correct them, in order to at least give the illusion that they were all part of the same image.
The reason behind Simon Procter's’ unique approach comes from his background. He studied painting for many years and holds a BA (Honors) degree in Fine Art from the prestigious Trent University of Nottingham. This wider training has given him a certain edge.
“There was a whole genre of painting that was not really relevant to me when I studied Fine Art. But once I started taking photos something - a whole tombe of composition and pictorial structure that I was trained to understand and analyse - clicked. This was a massive advantage.”
Simon Procter works on projects that involve both painting and photography, and is a thoroughly modern artist, tacking along the digital line that today blurs traditionally distinct artistic boundaries.
