Chanel had presented all guests with a beautiful monogrammed blanket and a small monogrammed vacuum flask filled with jasmine tea. I was impressed. The parade was superb. The models, one by one, circled the arena and then disappeared inside the gigantic 60-foot white tower: Karl walked out with the bride and everyone cheered. But the tower began to move. There was a collective gasp as the outside of the tower slid down to reveal all the models, posing perfectly on a giant spiral staircase. It was the first time I saw the fashion audience, usually so cold-blooded, surprised.
