Manglar Nuquí, Silver Gelatin Print, 2021

Miguel Winograd

This black and white photograph captures the intricate beauty of a mangrove forest. The composition leads the eye through a winding waterway, flanked by dense, tangled roots stretching into the air. The branches, adorned with clusters of leaves, create a delicate canopy, filtering the light into dappled patterns across the water's surface. The reflections enhance the texture and complexity of the scene, giving depth and dimension. The absence of color emphasizes the play of light and shadow, highlighting the unique structure and resilience of mangroves. This artwork not only showcases nature's architectural elegance but also evokes a sense of tranquil mystery, drawing the viewer into the serene yet complex ecosystem. The meticulous framing and choice of monochrome elevate the ordinary into a timeless visual narrative.

Miguel Winograd's work explores the relationship between people and their environment, narratives of social conflict, and the dense interconnections of the Colombian landscape. His work, which occasionally includes portraits of trees, captures the essence of nature through a documentary lens.
