Description
This captivating artwork immerses the viewer in a world of mystery and intensity. It comprises a dark, reddish-hued corridor, creating an atmosphere that is both unsettling and fascinating. The vaulted architecture, accentuated by a reddish glow, leads the eye toward a central window. The brilliant light beyond this window seems to invite exploration of unknown depths. Shadows play a crucial role, transforming the space into an infinite mirror. Reflections on the floor add an almost fluid dimension to the whole, blurring the line between reality and imagination. The contrast between the surrounding darkness and the bursts of light creates a striking visual dynamic, prompting the observer to question their perceptions and explore the narratives hidden within this mesmerizing scene.
Presentation
Virgile Mollat du Jourdin is a visual artist, photographer, videographer and sound composer, a graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
His practice explores the interaction between installation, photography, video, sculpture, sound, and mechanical devices. His work relies on viral tactics—parasitism, collage, détournement—which he interrogates through fiction.
He constructs fragmented universes composed of models, sculpted figures, still and animated images, as well as sound devices, questioning the circulation of information and its effects on bodies, architectures and narratives.
His installations take the form of immersive environments, made from recycled materials, simple mechanisms and cyclical sound devices.
His work has been presented in various exhibition contexts in France, including installations, group exhibitions and audiovisual projects.
Alongside his artistic practice, Virgile Mollat du Jourdin collaborates on films and audiovisual projects as a composer and sound designer.
