Description
Scanned from original 35mm film negative. Authentic high contrast film grain is visible. See close up image.
A color photograph capturing a pre-show moment inside a dimly lit New York City bar ahead of an independent burlesque performance. In the foreground, a performer sits at a long, patterned wooden bar counter, her leg extended upward as she adjusts a classic, low-heeled black boot. Ready for the night but currently off-duty, she wears a white lace-trimmed camisole corset, dark fishnets, and her hair is styled in a vintage updo, looking over her shoulder with an intense, expressive gaze. The atmosphere is defined by moody, low-key lighting, featuring a red glass candle holder on the bar and warm, fringed lamps casting a crimson glow in the background. A soft overhead spotlight cuts through the atmospheric mist, accentuating the dramatic character of the venue as it prepares for the crowd.
Presentation
Dorly Ninio is a photographer and film editor whose work focuses on street and documentary photography. She lived and photographed in London during the 2000s, producing photo essays for published articles in England, and later moved to New York City where she built a career editing documentary films. Alongside her work as an editor, she never stopped photographing. Her images are mainly documentary in nature, capturing incidental unposed moments as personal, observational daily records of her immediate surroundings. She is currently based in Paris.
