Quote "I try to get rid of all references to look for the primary forms, to find the primary elements that we have within us... these are very simple shapes, circles, spirals... which are part of a collective unconscious and recall a sort of primary innocence.

Presentation

Jacques Bosser was born in Le Havre in 1946.Today he lives in Montrouge, close to Paris.

Jacques Bosser's long stays abroad inform his practice and inspire him. In 1988 he worked and had shows in Los Angeles. In 1992 and 1994, during his stays in India, he took photos of travelers at temples that he used afterwards as an inspiration for his paintings. This was the starting point of a reflection on the use of photographs in his practice. In 1995, he perfected his mastery of photography and stopped seeing it as a tool or a double for reality. From this point on, in his studio, photographs are created like paintings, through layers and colors.

He traveled extensively in Africa in 1996 and experienced again the sensations of his childhood, as he lived in Equatorial Africa from the age of 3 to the age of 12. He went to Japan in 1997, and more recently to Korea and Taiwan.

His images become pure visual works, that he doesn't crop or edit, that have been called also "plastic photography". This is illustrated in 2006 by the BTK project (Bosser, Tilley, Kabuki), a collection of photographs (size 80 x 80 to 120 x 180 cm) featuring Sue Tilley, who was a model for the painter Lucian Freud, with full make-up, hairstyle and kimono with rich patterns, in close-up shots.
