Description
This vibrant and resolutely colorful work pays homage to the Catalan region through a composition rich in contrasts and energy. The multicolored touches and bold strokes evoke an aesthetic close to pop art, while also revealing a graphic sensibility inspired as much by Fauvism as by certain Brutalist accents in the architecture of Northern Catalonia, from Perpignan to the coastal villages.
At the center, an iconic lighthouse dominates the scene, surrounded by stylized buildings whose forms evoke both modern seaside structures and the older, almost sculptural silhouettes found in the region. The explosive colors sometimes recall the boldness of Picasso, while the inscriptions “Collioure” and “Fauvism” anchor the whole in a recognized artistic heritage.
Around the lighthouse, everyday scenes—lively terraces, bright markets, cafes open in both winter and summer—bring a human warmth that reinforces the Mediterranean identity of the work. In the background, the sparkling sea echoes the majestic curves of the mountains, creating a natural and poetic dialogue. Certain more abstract forms introduce symbols and symbolism that enrich the interpretation of the composition, illuminating Catalan culture from multiple perspectives.
The presence of darker touches, evoking night, subtly contrasts with the vibrant colors, accentuating the painting's dynamism and depth. The whole creates a harmonious and expressive vision of the Catalan coastline, where tradition, modernity, and artistic freedom converge in a luminous and intensely vibrant graphic universe.
Presentation
Jean-Philippe Henric, born in 1986 in Perpignan where he lives and works.
Drawing has always been a passion for this Catalan artist. It is naturally that he will pursue studies in History of Art then in Graphic Design in Bordeaux. He exhibited for the first time in an art gallery in 2010. Since then he has created on different supports and in different styles: paper, collage, canvas, ceramics, digital art... Like his production, his inspirations are heterogeneous, from prehistoric art to Jean-Michel Basquiat via cubism or arte Povera. Jean-Philippe Henric is an all-out creative who imagines new graphic works where he constantly seeks an aesthetic balance.
Since 2018 he has continuously exhibited his works in Perpignan, Céret and Collioure and occasionally in Paris.
