Description
On a deep black background, a banana stands out in shades of orange yellow and black, outlined by an incandescent LED neon that redraws its silhouette and projects its golden halo into the darkness. Across the fruit, a strip of silver gaffer tape adheres it to the wall, wrinkled texture and metallic reflections in support. Above and below, two words snap in coral red, in a massive Art Deco lettering: DO NOT / EAT.
The work functions as a telescope of two founding gestures of contemporary art. The fruit itself directly quotes the screen-printing imagery of Pop, its hit contours and arbitrary color; the adhesive tape, meanwhile, refers to one of the most commented scandals of the recent art market, where a banana taped to the wall has become the absolute symbol of speculative value. The injunction — museum warning, safety label, absurd warning — completes the transformation of the most perishable object imaginable into an untouchable relic.
LedMansion's signature is the addition of light: the neon does not just illuminate the image, it doubles it with a vibrant outline that makes it exist as a sign, somewhere between the gallery and the neon of a nightclub bar. The work radically changes its appearance depending on whether it is on or off, shifting from graphic painting to light sculpture.
