Description
Spatial Experiment III is defined by three resolute elements: an anchoring horizontal bar, an upright vertical pillar, and a sharp diagonal wedge suspended in an acute descent. Rendered in saturated red and amber against absolute black, these elements generate ambiguity between solid construction and pure projection. They read simultaneously as load-bearing structural members, typographical fragments, and beams of focused luminosity.
The composition's tension relies on counterpoint: the right-angled stability of the lower foundation is abruptly interrupted by the descending vector, which introduces velocity, asymmetric weight, and spatial vertigo. This structural dialogue builds upon Constructivist principles of dynamic force and planar balance, recalling the pioneering experiments of Liubov Popova and Alexander Rodchenko, while grounding its spatial economy in the legacy of early non-objective abstraction.
Crucially, Kholopova establishes light itself as the primary building block. This conceptual framework aligns with László Moholy-Nagy's Bauhaus research into transparency, projection, and the Light-Space Modulator, wherein illumination ceased to be an illustrative device and became an autonomous spatial medium. Reinterpreting this lineage within today's digital paradigm, Kholopova employs saturated LEDs and radiant registers to evoke the illuminated interfaces and urban lighting systems that define twenty-first-century visual experience.
