Description
Canvas mounted on wooden frame, signature and title on the back.
This piece is made using partially unwoven burlap, glued to the linen canvas support, the whole coated with gesso then colored.
The colours are achieved with oil paint, partly by misting and splashing with a toothbrush and partly by application with a flat brush.
"I was quite good, in my youth, at the sack race: it requires good athletic ability and a particularly sure sense of balance. This is precisely the impression of the sack race that emerges from this piece: a movement that is intended to be dynamic, although it is hindered. Which corresponds fully to the condition of the painter: he aspires to give the feeling of life and movement, while being limited by the fixity of the image which inevitably stops and freezes this movement at the very moment when it should be animated. Hence the conclusion that is obvious: painting is one of the modalities of the sack race. But it is not because one is good at the sack race that one is necessarily just as good at painting..."
Presentation
A qualified architect, holder of a DEA in History and Civilizations from EHESS in Paris, he created his first major exhibition at the age of 19, one year after his baccalaureate in plastic arts. After his studies, he pursued a continuing artistic activity and a career as an urban planner. He now devotes himself mainly to artistic creation.
While taking on very diverse forms over time, his creations have in common that they always seek to play with light. Captivated since his adolescence by textures, particularly those provided by landscapes of vineyards and fields of wheat or sunflowers, he is fascinated by the incredible force of enchantment that the evening or morning light brings to them when it plays with these textured surfaces, creating ephemeral but lively moires and undulations. This is how he has for some time now started using textile fibers, mainly linen and jute, in order to create textured surfaces which he then colors, notably by splashing and misting liquid color. . Little by little, he built a very personal world in this way where textures and colors combine to give life to these creations. And their unique ability to respond to changes in light is not the least of their appeal.
