Description
Excellent sheet in perfect conditions.
Henry Moore is best known for his semi-abstract monumental bronze sculptures. He is also famous for depicting Londoners during the Blitz during WWII, his series of drawings and graphic works on paper. His original prints represent abstractions of the human figure, typically reclining figures. Famous above all as a sculptor, Henry Moore experimented with various graphic techniques throughout his career. In the 1970s, he produced a number of lithographic variations on the theme of a reclining figure, and this 1976 lithograph may be considered as part of that body of work. Henry Moore’s sculptures, although abstracted, always remain recognizable. Moore alleged that the simple and massive shapes of his statues expressed a universal truth beyond the physical world. As he said, “My sculpture is becoming less representational, less an outward visual copy […] but only because I believe that in this way I can present the human psychological content of my work with greatest directness and intensity.”
Presentation
Henry Moore was an English artist , born in 1898 and died in 1986.
Born into a working-class family, Henry Moore was one of the first sculptors to bring a distinctive form of artistic modernism to British society in the early 20th century, drawing inspiration from primitive art.
Henry Moore achieved great success from the 1930s onward; he taught at several universities, and his creations quickly reached the top of the art market. By the late 1940s, he was considered the voice of British sculpture , having achieved worldwide renown. However, as his recognition and popularity grew, particularly through commissions, he preferred to live simply after the end of World War II and devoted most of his income to the Henry Moore Association to support education, promotion, and the dissemination of art.
Henry Moore's sculptures were primarily inspired by the female body, and he gradually moved toward more abstract and elongated forms. His signature motif was an elongated figure, and he worked primarily in monumental bronze. He created numerous works documenting the Blitz during World War II in London, which are housed in the British Museum.
