Description
Sculpture in waxed forged mild steel
3 moving characters
This striking sculpture immediately catches the eye with its stark simplicity and understated elegance. The work perhaps symbolises a family or group where each entity retains its individuality while remaining part of a coherent whole. The slender figures, stripped of all superfluous detail, evoke the very essence of the human form, reduced to its purest expression. The raw texture of the metal, both smooth and rough, is evidence of meticulous craftsmanship and a desire to capture the duality of human existence: strength and fragility, permanence and vulnerability. Mounted on a discreet base, the sculpture seems to defy gravity, rising with unusual grace. The play of shadows created by the figures adds a dynamic dimension to the work, offering a changing visual experience depending on the viewing angle and the source of light. This minimalist masterpiece is a celebration of form, proportion and balance. It encourages contemplation and provokes deep reflections on individuality, unity and simplicity. A true tribute to contemporary art that is sure to captivate and inspire.
Presentation
A sculptor, Maxime Plancque was born in 1958 in Rouen. He now lives in Manche where he has his own forge.
He trained as a copper-smith, it was only at the age of 40 that Maxime Plancque decided to study again and begin ironwork at Ecole de Strasbourg. He then taught this subject at Le Havre and the Parisian region. Previously, his expertise allowed him to rub shoulders with the world of art, while restoring paintings, gilding on wood or furniture.
He gradually devoted himself to sculpture. Maxime Plancque is able to make the material dance and fold iron. He's able to tame his elements and this results in mundane scenes through fire, air and water.
Couples or a group, he is able to tame his characters all along. Despite appearances, the latter are mobile on their base and therefore free to express themselves. This way, they can change places and appearances. There is an opposition between immobility and movement, between the raw material and smooth lines. With simple means and great expertise, he is able to transform the material into emotions and vice versa.
Maxime Plancque has been exhibiting since 2000 in Paris, Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland. He was rewarded twice in 2005 by European award. Since 2013, his slender beings are higher and much bigger.
