Description
In L'islandaise, Christelle Barberena creates a figure that is both human and almost mythological. The face, partly hidden behind a sculptural structure resembling a mineral crown or headdress, appears trapped within the material itself. The finely carved patterns on the surface evoke tattoos, ritual ornaments, and geological textures — as if body and stone had merged into one form.
The sculpture conveys a quiet softness combined with a sense of endurance. One feels a deep connection to harsh landscapes shaped by rock, wind, and isolation. Nothing here is purely decorative: every relief and texture contributes to a timeless identity, calm on the surface, intense beneath.
