Description
A unique monumental sculpture in painted papier-mâché.
Signed by the artist
"Free and strong!
That's who I am,
free with my forms, strong with my colors, the two always intertwined.
Talking about this work is no simple matter.
Everything moves, everything dances around me and within me.
There is gentleness and anger in this expression.
The rounded shapes unfold, the colors intertwine, organize themselves.
When I paint on the forms, a music can be heard.
In apparent chaos, I seek a balance, that of colors responding to one another.
The faces look at us; there are only faces with wide, questioning, or slightly surprised eyes: but what do they see?
Our fears and our joys, the darkness of our hearts as well.
I tell stories of little girls who travel in a parallel world.
" I tirelessly search for answers to my inner turmoil.
I speak of Alice, of the father of the mother, of rape, of the fox, of the dragon, of powerful women, of the volcano, of tears, of dreams, of oceans, and of whispers…
Wabé, December 2025
Presentation
Her colorful and vivid sculptures in papier-mache, represent animals and human beings in an artistic research that follows the same line as that of Niki de Saint Phalle. The artist does not represent reality, but a dream world, an imaginary world inhabited by creatures with exorbitant eyes.
"It is not the materials used that create art, but the way we look at it. Hours of hard work cannot be turned into a precious masterpiece, even if it is made of gold. And yet a medium as humble as paper; papier mâché sets free Wabé’s instinctive talent to create rich, dreamlike landscapes teeming with vitality and hidden depths. Wabé is neither careful nor respectful of norms and natural order. She steps joyfully into unchartered territories of the contemporary art world. She leads us to places where children dream and play amongst animals, to the corners of our imagination."
René TURC, "Wabé, Bifaces et autres merveilles", Edition Grandir, 2014.
Wabé's work has been particularly exhibited in France and Switzeland.
