Description
This ceramic artwork presents a figure that is half-human, half-bird, sculpted in a distinctive style. The piece is distinguished by its stark contrasts between the dark background and the white figure, creating a striking visual intensity. The fine, crackled lines on the surface add a dynamic texture that suggests the wear of time. The intricately chiseled details of the feathers lend the figure a natural elegance, while the stylized facial expression adds a mystical dimension to the whole. The arrangement of the wings, seemingly in motion, symbolizes a duality between freedom and grounding. This bold blend of human and avian elements invites reflection on metamorphosis and the interconnectedness of the living and spiritual worlds. The artwork instantly captures attention with its symbolic complexity and balanced aesthetic.
Presentation
Raâk was born in Brittany, in the Finistère region, in 1940. At the age of sixteen, inhabited by malaise, she painfully leaves "the gast country" for the capital where her quest for the Grail begins.
1975: The year of reckoning. The path she had taken appeared to her as a total failure which made her struggle in a serious existential crisis. The "safety net" writing that she has always practised becomes powerless itself and is no longer of any help to her.
1976: Raâk discovers a free creative workshop in her neighbourhood where clay is offered as a therapeutic material. And this is the unlikely ascent towards life, which finds strange and jubilant passages through the pounding of her suffering. In his hands, obscure latent forces heaped up by thirty-six years of heartbeats explode.
