The challenge of my work is to imprison the plastic fragments collected along the way before they reach the sea and to make forgotten worlds spring forth from them.
These pieces are inspired by the aesthetic of curiosity cabinets and the memories of the Nîmes ethnographic museum. Bone fragments, phalanges, have grown from the masks, because these pieces of plastic often have an organic evocation. With these small waste materials, I do archaeology, I collect bits of life and I tell a story. I wanted to mummify them, put them under a bell jar to protect them, to make them even more precious.
These compositions open a door to a singular exoticism, populated by myths and legends like that of the Chupacabra. By placing these colored debris under a bell jar, the artist transforms them into precious objects, provoking a tension between the fascination for their chromatic grace and the horror of the proliferation of this industrial material.
A hybrid composition blossoms under a glass dome.
The dark wooden base supports an organic structure, evoking gnarled roots or dry branches.
From this natural support emerges an explosion of colors and synthetic shapes.
Fragments of plastic, gears, and manufactured objects intertwine to form an artificial bouquet.
The contrast between the organic material and the industrial residues questions our relationship to nature.
The chromatic play, dominated by yellow, red, and blue, brings a playful energy to the whole.
A calligraphic inscription on a ribbon punctuates the base of the installation.
The object presents itself as a contemporary specimen, frozen in a protective jar.
The gaze circulates between the rigidity of the plastic and the fluidity of the woody curves.
This piece plays on the tension between museum conservation and urban accumulation.
David-Henri Duart develops an artistic approach that he defines as an aesthetic of waste. Collecting plastic fragments along the Mediterranean coast, he strives to capture these discards before they join the sea to make them spring forth with forgotten stories and worlds.
Through these stagings, David-Henri Duart invites the spectator to explore imaginary territories where plastic, diverted from its primary function, becomes the support of a poetic and engaged narration.
