Description
'Simulacra Infinity Pool 004' is a 3D PLA printed simulation of artist's sculpture of crystal medallion, clock parts, metal lab clamp, found 3D printed plastic cone, silicone. These creations are a blend of scientific phenomena, technology, and fantasy, as Weis creates simulations of her sculptural works through the process of 3D scanning and printing. Her archetypes are curious artefacts comprised of found industrial objects, the artist's own recycled artworks, silicon and organic elements, often partially crystallized and/or melted. The works are 3D scanned and transferred into a digital file- itself a digital hologram of reality - that can be simulated anywhere. These simulacrums have traces of the original work but with different properties. The original works become blueprints. The simulations take on their own dimensions regarding time, size and space and become something completely different from the original creation - retaining their own new set of spectrums, reality and meaning. For some of the works, the artist spins the concept of this process even further by manipulating the 3D facsimile /copy of the original work by hand.
