Cabinet de curiosité 3 - MOI SI, 2025

DH Duart

The challenge of my work is to imprison the plastic fragments collected along the way before they reach the sea and to make forgotten worlds spring forth from them.

These pieces are inspired by the aesthetic of curiosity cabinets and the memories of the Nîmes ethnographic museum. Bones, phalanges have grown from the masks, because these pieces of plastic often have an organic evocation. With these small waste materials, I do archaeology, I collect pieces of life and I tell a story. I wanted to mummify them, put them under a cloche to protect them, to make them even more precious.

These compositions open a door to a singular exoticism, populated by myths and legends like that of the Chupacabra. By placing these colored debris under a cloche, the artist transforms them into precious objects, provoking a tension between the fascination for their chromatic grace and the dread of the proliferation of this industrial material.

This figurative sculpture is part of an ecological and poetic approach.
The artist uses plastic fragments collected on the Mediterranean coast.
He transforms these waste materials into an imaginary creature, capturing the material before it joins the marine depths.
The complex assembly is organized under a glass cloche, recalling the old curiosity cabinets.
The contrast is marked between the organic base, of a spectral white, and the explosion of saturated colors at the top.
Filaments and pieces diverted from their initial use compose a face with fantastic features.
An open jaw reveals stylized teeth and a colored tongue.
The whole rests on a dark wooden base.
A ribbon brings a narrative touch with the inscription Me si!

This piece made in 2025 questions our relationship with consumption through a precise visual narrative.
