Equilibriste, 2019

This intriguing and captivating work of art features a wooden sculpture of a man in a striking contortionist pose. Made from raw, natural materials, the choice of wood brings an organic texture and visual warmth to the piece. The figure, dressed in dark blue pants and a yellow sweater, balances on one hand, while the other hand appears to cover his face, a gesture that intrigues and invites reflection. The figure's legs are raised and folded, forming a bold curve that defies gravity, highlighting the incredible flexibility and bodily control. The base of the sculpture, also made of wood, evokes a rustic scene in harmony with the rest of the work. The attention to detail, including the realistic depiction of the folds of clothing and the texture of skin, gives the piece a striking realism. This sculpture offers a profound reflection on balance, both physical and emotional, and how human beings place themselves in complex situations. The contortionist pose and the ambiguous gesture of the hand covering the face add a dimension of mystery and provoke in the viewer a questioning about the symbolic interpretation of the work. Is it a gesture of shame, meditation or simple protection against an oppressive outside world? The uniqueness of this work therefore lies in its ability to combine a technical and artistic prowess with a symbolic depth that unfailingly touches the viewer. It is an invitation to contemplate, analyze and feel each aspect of this singular sculpture.
