Description
In A Pandasan’s Radiance: Rose Quartz Luminescence, Hiro Ando transforms his iconic Pandasan into a luminous and emotional presence within the series Celestial Guardians: Shimmering Crystal Chronicles.
Standing at 100 cm in height, the sculpture commands attention through both its monumental scale and its delicate chromatic vibration.
Cast in resin, the figure is entirely covered with meticulously hand-applied crystals dominated by rose tones, enriched by subtle bursts of silver, blue, and pale pink.
Silver crystal accents recall the natural markings of the panda, maintaining a poetic connection to the animal source.
The pink spectrum evokes tenderness, affection, and emotional warmth, giving the sculpture a softer yet equally powerful visual aura.
The shimmering mosaic surface transforms Pandasan into a radiant contemporary guardian balancing innocence and sophistication.
Each crystal behaves like a pixel of light, echoing our digital visual environment and fragmented perception of reality.
Ando converts a comforting childhood figure into a sculptural icon reflecting contemporary desire for escapism and emotional reassurance.
The sparkling surface questions modern fascination with glamour while simultaneously embracing its seductive power.
The sculpture navigates between pop icon, luxury object, and symbolic protector.
Rose tones soften the monumental volume, creating an emotional dialogue between strength and vulnerability.
Under shifting light, the surface appears alive, continuously renewing the viewer’s perception.
The artist’s psychology reveals a blend of playful nostalgia and critical observation of consumer society.
Pandasan emerges as a universal totem shaped for contemporary imagination.
The sculpture first captivates through brilliance, then encourages deeper contemplation.
Each detail reveals Ando’s mastery in combining craftsmanship with cultural storytelling.
The piece blurs boundaries between collectible art and accessible pop culture imagery.
Its luminous presence reshapes exhibition spaces with warmth and energy.
The sculpture perfectly embodies Nippon Neo Pop’s fusion of emotional imagery and contemporary luxury aesthetics.
The work celebrates joy, color, and emotional connection in an era dominated by digital spectacle.
Ando transforms sparkle into narrative, elevating kitsch into refined sculptural language.
This Pandasan becomes both playful companion and monumental artistic statement.
The piece confirms Ando’s ability to turn familiar figures into powerful contemporary symbols.
For collectors, acquiring this sculpture represents an exceptional opportunity to secure a monumental and emotionally resonant Neo Pop artwork, combining visual impact, international recognition, and long-term artistic value within a forward-looking contemporary collection.
Presentation
Hiro Ando was born in 1973 on the island of Shikoku in Japan. Hiro Ando started his career as an illustrator in 1995. In 2005 he founded with Saori Nakamishi an artist studio in Tokyo to manage the creation and promotion of other young neo-pop artists who express their own popular culture in their creations. Today the studio "Crazynoodles" has ten artists.
Hiro Ando is a versatile artist. He works in oil on canvas, digital media or video. His technique consists of making several sketches before painting on canvas. The painting shapes itself and emerges in the streets of Tokyo at night, and combines lots of colors and graphics. Hiro paints dark cityscapes and goldfish all over the canvas.
The marriage of the two subjects makes the whole of the painting dynamic and violent, with a strange feeling of eternity given by the goldfish which recall old Japanese paintings and watercolors. The sculpture is a recent addition to the media used by Ando, who started working on a series of orange, green sculptures ... inspired by Japanese popular culture. Thus the cat, which is a lucky charm in Japan, like the Maneki-Neko, takes different forms such as the samurai or the sumo wrestler.
The artist translates this theme into a modern style. The shiny and smooth materials, the vivid colors, the brutal but rounded shapes of Hiro Ando's sculptures take us to the world of manga in which the artist's generation grew up. Hiro Ando's art is the meeting between the Meiji era and Manga, he is Shogun in the world of Pokemon, he is traditional Japan seen through the eyes of young people: he certainly belongs to Japanese neo pop art.
