Brice Gelot

France Born in: 1985 Emergent Artist

Brice Gelot is a self-taught contemporary French artist, born in 1985 in Dijon. His creative passion began with street photography, skateboarding and graffiti culture. Over the years, he has broadened his artistic horizons to include painting and sculpture. Gelot has dedicated his life to creating artworks which express his message all over the world, moving to Australia and later to London.

Over the years and throughout his travels, Gelot gradually moved away from photography and decided to create his own movement. He draws his inspiration from the Latin expression 'Memento mori': 'an artistic style where all creation is produced with the objective of reminding humans of their own mortality'. To that end, the artist is concerned by ever-increasing crime rates, particularly in London. He aims to denounce this violence through his works, which he achieves by placing the importance of life at the heart of his compositions. His work combines painting and sculpture, interwoven with calligraphic lettering, to explore the dark side of life. With that aim in mind, he expertly uses black paint in his work. He likes to remind us of our own mortality, our mistakes and failures, the inevitable passage from life to death but above all, the importance of life and the need to cherish it.

His slogan 'Make art, stop war' is a pacifist message, full of hope for the future, 'Life is short and it is up to us to make it beautiful'.

He exhibits in Los Angeles, Paris and London.
