About the artwork
'Trace I' forms part of the 'Tracing the Future' series (2015) exploring the future of the 'image'.
Using iconic images from the 'Old Master' works the potential results of constant remediation are explored. In separating the image from its original context new narratives and 'life' is formed. This is taken from The Mona Lisa, the half-length portrait of Lisa Gherardini by the Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci.
Photographic Print. Face mounted onto perspex and backed with Aluminium. Ready for hanging with a sub-frame which allows the image to float.

Any question about the artwork, the artist or the delivery?
In 2013 Paula completed a Diploma in Art and Design at Putney School of Art. Her working style is based around a family crisis which happened a decade ago and explores absence, loss and separation.
Paula uses a variety of mediums to communicate her feelings and emotions about existing, revered imagery. Extensive initial research and focus on an idea invariably leads to a particular route presenting itself to her as the best way to move forward and from this point on, a process of learning and exploration begins on a continuum basis. Each artwork evolves alongside Paula's increased understanding of the original image it references and her handling and management of the chosen medium.
Her latest series explores the continuous mediation of a single image via mechanical processes. The mediated image evolves as it is processed through multiple mechanical methods, gathering unique characteristics at each stage which alter it through enhancement or degradation and dislocate it from its original state and intended meaning. Through experimentation and mechanical exploitation of borrowed images she explores new ways to combine and capture idiosyncrasies, showing the potential for a new narrative through her resultant artworks.
