    Artwork sold in perfect condition

Manolo Valdes is an award-winning Spanish artist who was influenced by the great masters such as Picasso and Velazquez. He takes figures such as Velazquez’s Meninas and re-contextualizes them in a highly original way. His art is filled with references to Spain, and he often used his work to criticize the regime of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. He incorporates collages by artists such as Leger and Gaugin directly onto his etchings to reinterpret traditional art forms. His eponymous work Reina Mariana is inspired by Velazquez’s Queen Mariana, a portrait of the second wife of King Felipe IV.
