My process involves creating semi-abstract compositions from motifs and textures that I gather. Most recently for this collection, I have prepared the papers, rather than using clippings from external sources. I meticulously select the media, techniques and textures I like to employ, and often I make my own combination using acrylic, ink, gouache or others, while experimenting with calligraphy, etching, silkscreen, etc.

Discover more by the artist
Lebanese artist, Haibat Balaa Bawab graduated in 1975 from Beirut University College (now Lebanese American University). In 1982 she was awarded the unique prize from the Central Bank for designing the Lebanese currency. She was an art instructor at LAU from 1987 till 2001 when she earned a post at AUST where she is currently an art coordinator. Haibat has participated in numerous solo and collective exhibitions in Lebanon, throughout the Middle East as well as in Europe. Haibat constructs imaginative abstract works using paper clippings in an innovative technique. By affixing abstract cutout pieces from printed media in a figurative composition, she gives her collages an illuminating existence.
