Description
This vibrant artwork captures a lively outdoor gathering set against a serene rural backdrop. The composition is teeming with figures, each engaged in various social interactions, highlighting the community's dynamism. The characters, dressed in vivid, textured garments, contrast sharply with the whitewashed building adorned with floral patterns. The use of bold, saturated colors draws the eye, while the lush green hills in the background add depth and tranquility to the scene. The intricate detailing in each figure's attire and posture suggests a rich diversity, and the expressive use of line and color showcases the artist's unique style. This piece masterfully combines elements of everyday life with a touch of surrealism, inviting viewers to delve deeper into its narrative complexity.
Presentation
Born in Beirut in 1952, Haibat Balaa Bawab received her BA in Fine Arts in 1975 from Beirut University College (now LAU) and has taught there for 17 years. From 2001 until 2022, she has been the Fine Arts Coordinator and instructor at the American University of Science and Technology (AUST).
This exhibition focuses on a series of Mixed Media Collages and Oil Paintings that reflect a range of current subjects, memories encountered in day-to-day life, which are reflections of topical issues and moments.
Haibat’s process in these Mixed Media Collages involves making papers from textures and motifs that she prepares using different media and techniques. They are multimedia in form, still dominated by Collage themes.
Haibat Balaa Bawab has had multiple solo exhibitions and has participated in several collective exhibitions in Lebanon, Grand Palais de Paris, and many Arab countries. In 2019, she was invited and participated in the 8th Biennale in Beijing. A monograph of her work entitled: "Haibat Balaa Bawab The Art of Collage" was published in 2012.
