Description
With this drawing, done in ink pen, I wanted to work with the minuscule; I wanted the viewer to approach the drawing and contemplate it. After creating monumental sculptures and large-format paintings, changing scale allowed me to explore a different space and make the void resonate. Both minimalist and delicate, I envisioned it as a jewel.
The men in this series of drawings, created in Athens in 2017, remain desirable, incomplete. They present themselves as if on a dating app, leaving reality, face, and potential pleasure to the imagination.
Presentation
Initially an actor and videographer for the theatre, Samuel, now sam·e, develops a queer practice of sculpture and painting that deconstructs heroic virility and politically questions the body and its representations.
Her work questions the body as a political and plastic space: how norms shape our emotions and identities.
By weakening and queering the codes of the heroic body, they compose desired and desiring presences that invite new forms of resistance.
