Description
This impressive painting is inspired by Bob Paris, an American writer, actor, civil rights activist, and former professional bodybuilder. Using bright, contrasting colors, such as shades of pink, blue, and white, the artist creates a dynamic and expressive atmosphere. The use of pinks and blues in his palette echoes the colors wrongly attributed to boys and girls. The bold brushstrokes add a lively texture to the muscular figure. The dark background highlights the central subject, allowing him to dominate the scene with intensity. Each stroke seems to announce an imminent movement, capturing passion, fantasy, and power all at once.
Presentation
Initially an actor and videographer for the theatre, Samuel, now sam·e, develops a queer practice of sculpture and painting that deconstructs heroic virility and politically questions the body and its representations.
Her work questions the body as a political and plastic space: how norms shape our emotions and identities.
By weakening and queering the codes of the heroic body, they compose desired and desiring presences that invite new forms of resistance.
