Description

"Quiet States - 5" (series “Quiet States") is a compelling oil-on-paper artwork that dives deep into the introspective emotional landscape of a woman. Rendered in a semi-abstract style with powerful strokes of crimson and vibrant red, this piece captures fleeting moments of anticipation, desire, and subtle tension. The artist masterfully conceals identity to emphasize pure sensation, inviting viewers to connect with the raw, layered complexity of inner feminine experience. Perfect for adding a dramatic, sophisticated touch to contemporary spaces, this piece is also an ideal gift for those who appreciate art that speaks to the soul. A captivating addition to any art collection.

Artist: “Quiet States is a mini series of six works created as part of the larger project My Borders. Painted in oil on paper in a semi abstract manner, these works capture intimate and fleeting emotional states of a woman. Not loud emotions, but barely noticeable inner movements: anticipation, desire, anxiety, vulnerability, quiet tension. Faces are partially hidden or erased, shifting focus from identity to sensation. This series reflects the changing inner rhythm of a woman, her layered emotional nature, and the mysterious depth of her inner world. The series “My Borders" explores the female experience through roles, expectations, and inner conflicts. It reflects the emotional and physical survival of women in the modern world, where care, vulnerability, and strength exist at the same time. The works examine the delicate line between femininity and feminism, revealing the layered complexity of female identity."

Presentation

Dizlarka, the artistic name of Leah Larisa Bunshaft, is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist whose practice examines femininity, feminism, motherhood, vulnerability, identity, personal boundaries, and the social structures that shape women's lives.

Working across painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and installation, Dizlarka treats material as an active part of meaning. Textiles, glass, concrete, photographs, found objects, threads, masks, and domestic or bodily references create tensions between protection and exposure, beauty and pressure, fragility and resistance.

Much of her work begins with female experience. She is particularly interested in the roles women are expected to perform — caring, organizing, adapting, nurturing, remaining desirable, absorbing emotional labor — and in how these expectations can become so normalized that they are no longer seen.

Her project My Borders explores personal, psychological, bodily, and social boundaries through a predominantly red visual language. Female figures, threads, masks, heels, and symbolic objects become ways of examining control, autonomy, expectation, and self-definition.

Dizlarka's work does not present vulnerability as the opposite of strength. Instead, the two continually coexist. Personal experience becomes a starting point for questions that extend beyond autobiography: what do we carry because we choose to, and what have we simply been taught to carry?

Her work has been exhibited internationally in the United States and Europe, including presentations at MoRA Museum in New York and museum exhibitions in Italy.
