Description
Woman with flowing auburn hair turns toward an unseen source of light, her thoughtful gaze creating a moment of quiet intimacy. Rich terracotta, golden, and deep plum shades surround her, while touches of turquoise, mint green, and lavender bring an unexpected luminosity to her face and figure.
Created with gouache and oil pastels on paper, this original portrait combines energetic gestures with delicate color transitions. Broad strokes define the hair and shoulders, while softer details reveal the woman's expression. The layered colors and expressive marks give the composition depth, movement, and a distinctive contemporary character.
Inspired by the warmth and richness of sunset tones, the artwork moves beyond conventional portraiture to explore mood through color. Sensual yet reflective, it offers an engaging interpretation of feminine beauty and individuality, making it a memorable choice for collectors of expressive figurative art.
Materials: Gouache and oil pastels on paper.
Shipping / Display: Shipped rolled in a protective tube. Framing is required after delivery.
Presentation
Yuriy Khudov is a contemporary artist. Trained in furniture design and artistic woodcarving, he spent 13 years in the film industry as an art director, concept artist, and 3D modeler before shifting his focus toward figurative painting and drawing. His background also includes visual merchandising and work on the creation and restoration of wooden crosses on the Solovetsky Islands.
Yuriy's practice marks a deliberate move away from digital precision toward ambiguity, physical texture, and expressive gesture. Working across oil painting, drawing, and mixed media, he explores psychological states that exist between clarity and dissolution. Female figures often emerge from darkness or appear suspended between dream, memory, and physical presence. Rather than using color and light to describe reality, Yuriy employs them to create emotional tension and stillness. Unfinished forms, visible brushwork, and disrupted surfaces allow the image to remain open, shifting between recognition and abstraction.
