Description
A shadowed face emerges from a dense field of black charcoal and gestural marks. Partly concealed beneath dark hair, the figure feels introspective and emotionally withdrawn, while the exposed areas of the face create a strong point of human presence within the composition.
Broad black passages are balanced by scratched lines, gray transitions, and untouched paper. Several long drips fall from the lower edge of the darker mass, adding movement and fragility to the image and preventing the composition from becoming static.
The artist connects the hidden face with introspection, a stream of thought, and emotions that remain concealed. Rather than explaining those emotions directly, the artwork leaves them suspended between shadow and visibility, allowing the viewer to respond personally.
Its monochrome palette and strong contrast make it well suited to a contemporary or minimalist interior. It can also make a distinctive gift for someone drawn to psychological portraiture, expressive drawing, and emotionally focused figurative art.
Materials: Charcoal and gouache on paper.
Shipping / Display: The artwork is shipped rolled in a protective tube and will require stretching or framing after delivery.
Presentation
Yuriy Khudov is a contemporary artist. Trained in furniture design and artistic woodcarving, he spent 13 years in the film industry as an art director, concept artist, and 3D modeler before shifting his focus toward figurative painting and drawing. His background also includes visual merchandising and work on the creation and restoration of wooden crosses on the Solovetsky Islands.
Yuriy's practice marks a deliberate move away from digital precision toward ambiguity, physical texture, and expressive gesture. Working across oil painting, drawing, and mixed media, he explores psychological states that exist between clarity and dissolution. Female figures often emerge from darkness or appear suspended between dream, memory, and physical presence. Rather than using color and light to describe reality, Yuriy employs them to create emotional tension and stillness. Unfinished forms, visible brushwork, and disrupted surfaces allow the image to remain open, shifting between recognition and abstraction.
