Description

Rapidography and acrylic on canvas

This striking artwork captures an enchanting panoramic view of Paris, the City of Light, with meticulous detail and a vibrant palette that breathes life into the scene. Dominating the skyline stands the iconic Eiffel Tower, depicted with a rustic charm that anchors this bustling urban landscape. The artist masterfully illustrates the intricate maze of historical buildings, each exquisitely rendered with a keen eye for architectural detail that showcases the city's rich heritage. A notable aspect of this piece is its dynamic use of color and texture, setting a lively and whimsical mood. The shimmering Seine River gracefully winds through the cityscape, its surface glistening under the soft sunlight, reflecting the hues of the sky above. Bridges spanning the river, captured with precise perspective, add rhythm and connectivity to the composition. Hot air balloons drift gracefully across the sky, injecting an element of fantasy and nostalgia, reminiscent of a bygone era. The clouds are fluffy and sparse, allowing the cerulean sky to dominate, enhancing the overall feeling of open space and freedom. This juxtaposition of historical permanence with ephemeral flight underscores the eternal beauty and romantic allure of Paris. Foreground elements, such as the ornate rooftops and lush greenery, provide depth to the image, guiding the viewer's eye through the layered complexity of the urban environment. Every corner of this artwork invites close scrutiny, revealing delightful details like boats leisurely sailing on the river, and the meticulous brick and stone work of the buildings. This artwork is not merely a representation of Paris; it is a vivid narrative that captures the essence of cultural vibrancy, architectural grandeur, and the timeless enchantment of one of the world's most beloved cities. It is a celebration of both the permanence and the ever-changing spirit of Paris, designed to captivate and transport the observer into this picturesque moment.

Presentation

Pascal Plazanet is a French artist born in 1963 who lives and works in Paris, France. For more 30 years, he constantly uses rapidograph pens in his artworks on paper or onto canvas. The rapidograph is a special pen with a capillary tubular tip in which flows a black pigment, an ancient drawing tool used by architects before the arrival of the CAD.

There are several lead or tip thicknesses ranging from 0.1 or 10% of a millimeter up to 1.2 or 120% of a millimeter. All lead thicknesses are 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 which means that all tips or leads vary between 0.1 and 1.2 millimeters. The artist uses 0.2 or 20% of a millimeter.
