“Noman's Land - Paths of Lost Riders”
Landscape series express a kind of bridge between time, nature and the sensible.
Unveiling the invisible curtains we all once hid behind, this exhibition is inspired by the intimate conversations İmren İyem had with loved ones in the past years in her Studio ii - fostering deeper connections in both her personal life and creative practice.
The paintings of landscape series set us apart from the common place and leads us by hidden and difficult paths to secluded spots where we find outselves among fluid thoughts.

Destination:
Since the launch of our exhibition idea, Studio ii had the pleasure of working closely with a photographer and an architect bringing to life special pictures and ideas for exhibition audiences to enjoy. It brings us so much joy to dive into the inspirations and processes that make up a full body of work, celebrating experiences and stories we all relate to, those that make up our current reality.
"We do not need to be in the nature to be naturalists: we need to be attentive to what is here and now. Spirituality in these paintings are about living well and attentively as a part of the living incarnate cosmos. Art is a reflection of what we feel inside, we hope you find a piece of you in Riders Of Lost Paths & enjoy this exhibition as much as I did creating it!"

Time:
These abstract paintings in these series are associated with nature and understandably with time.
The solace of wild places is a central component of this exhibition for the attention and reawakening of senses that is celebrated in the unmediated encounter between humankind and nature. Yet time expands our fascination of nature and transports these woods and streams into a larger universe whenever we are singularly attentive and perceptive to what is.
"The foremost reason that I create empty landscapes is because the emptiness forms a priceless living bridge between the everyday psychology of our minds and the universal spirit of humanity. I mean artistic creations that reflect spiritual principles and values like beauty, creativity, honesty, generosity, discernment, patience, and perseverance."

Peace:
Wildlife as İyem sees it is like a poem. Poems by Nazım Hikmet more specifically. "Your soul is a river my sweetheart, flowing from up there, through the mountains towards the plain, towards the plain but never reaching it". Today with the clearing of the native forests, wildlife and animals slide toward extinction. Is there a way out? She explores how the arts are responsible for disrupting, complicating, or shifting narratives of visual representation in the public realm. What do you hope might come of this invitation?

"Nazim Hikmet was a Turkish poet, co-founder of Peace Lovers Community and International Peace Prize
laureate. He is considered to be the first modern Turkish poet and he is recognized as one of the greatest
international poets of the twentieth century around the world. Like his poems my paintings are about the
truth of the universe that resides in every and each of us. It is essential to protect our habitats and understand the vital role of each species within the earth's ecosystems. Art with its unique ability to reach to people, can help promote a greater awareness and understanding the constituents for a sustainable world and peace. For us and the entire wildlife heritage."

Tranquility:
Iyem evokes the serenity of the countryside of her youth. Every piece in the exhibition has some connection to the places and people she knew during those tranquil years living in the country. The paintings reflect the serenity of that environment between her poetic canvas artworks and her minimalist eloquence.

"I would argue that if we don’t fully appreciate the function of visual literacy for a society’s selfcomprehension
and for global citizenship, it is because we are only forced to do so during periods of collective failure: when we can’t see past ourselves. We are currently in an urgent – and I would argue dangerous – moment, which offers near daily reminders that the fragility of nature alongside basic human rights have not only been secured by norms and laws but, by how we judge, quite literally see the nature and each other, and how we refuse to see nature and each other."

Possibility:
Murder, fire and fear in wildlife haven. In an otherwise grim picture of the status of wildlife around
the world, İyem's work as one bright spot stands out, where dedicated warden barred poachers
and provided a haven for wild animals. Do we see the future and embrace our possibilities?
"The possibility that our lives may be pointless leaves as naked and vulnerable. We all are in search for a life of meaning and purpose but finding such a life is difficult. But once the question of purpose becomes a question, there is no turning back. For me painting is an activity that takes me away from men and women, business, pleasure, and passion. It is an activity that has its own meaning. An activity full of possibilities."
