Description
This piece is made with a partially unwoven burlap placed on a linen canvas fixed on a wooden frame, the whole being prepared with gesso. The undercoats are made with acrylic paint, the final layers are made with oil paint.
Here, the graphics provided by the burlap draw a shape evoking a totem figure, hence this title: "anima", which evokes the principle of a breath of life. And it seems to me to apply well to this achievement, both immobile by its almost symmetrical centrality, and at the same time animated by a quiver of life brought by the drippings, the projections of colors and especially by the movement suggested by the burlap.
Presentation
A qualified architect, holder of a DEA in History and Civilizations from EHESS in Paris, he created his first major exhibition at the age of 19, one year after his baccalaureate in plastic arts. After his studies, he pursued a continuing artistic activity and a career as an urban planner. He now devotes himself mainly to artistic creation.
While taking on very diverse forms over time, his creations have in common that they always seek to play with light. Captivated since his adolescence by textures, particularly those provided by landscapes of vineyards and fields of wheat or sunflowers, he is fascinated by the incredible force of enchantment that the evening or morning light brings to them when it plays with these textured surfaces, creating ephemeral but lively moires and undulations. This is how he has for some time now started using textile fibers, mainly linen and jute, in order to create textured surfaces which he then colors, notably by splashing and misting liquid color. . Little by little, he built a very personal world in this way where textures and colors combine to give life to these creations. And their unique ability to respond to changes in light is not the least of their appeal.
