Description
This work of art, treated in a distinctive abstract style, is a captivating composition that plays with traditional visual conventions. The canvas presents a harmonious arrangement of geometric shapes with soft contours, crisscrossing each other in a dynamic manner. Dominated by a bold color palette including red, blue, yellow, green, black and white, each hue appears to dialogue with the others, creating a rich and vibrant visual symphony. The background of the painting, a calming gray, serves as a neutral backdrop that highlights the vibrancy of the avant-garde colors in the foreground. The shapes, reminiscent of architectural fragments or constructed blocks, rise and overlap, imparting a sense of movement and depth, despite the absence of figurative details. The vibrant use of primary colors, contrasted by darker tones, accentuates the internal dynamics of the work. Black and white, in particular, introduce striking visual breaks, guiding the viewer's eye through the composition with an almost rhythmic fluidity. The artist's signature, visible in the lower right corner, gives this piece undeniable authenticity. This painting not only seduces the eye, it intrigues and invites contemplation. It demonstrates a technical mastery and artistic sensitivity that transcends the simple arrangement of shapes and colors, opening a window toward a deeper exploration of perceptions and emotions. It is a work that stands out for its ability to balance energy and harmony, abstraction and clarity, making it an essential piece for any contemporary art lover enthusiastic about discovering the multiple facets of abstraction.
Presentation
In the tradition of great production designers (Alexandre Trauner, Ken Adam), Dean Tavoularis has discreetly established himself in the history of cinema, leaving his mark on around thirty films, including almost the entire work of Francis F. Coppola.
Trained at Disney (Lady and the Tramp, Mary Poppins), this son of Greek immigrants, settled in California, took drawing and architecture classes, before materializing the plans of Arthur Penn (Bonnie and Clyde, Little Big Man) and Michelangelo Antonioni (Zabriskie Point). Each of his shoots requires long hours of location scouting and documentary research, his secret for defining the opaque atmosphere of The Godfather or the humidity of Apocalypse Now, the misty exteriors of Hammett by Wim Wenders or the coquettish interiors of Carnage, his last film, directed by Roman Polanski in 2011. Since then, in Paris where he lives with the actress Aurore Clément, Dean Tavoularis paints canvases which he exhibits alongside the storyboards of his brother Alex, the very ones which were used studying the settings of his films.
