Description
This captivating artwork is distinguished by its subtle use of soft, ethereal colors, creating a mood that is both dreamy and contemplative. The painting features a large circle in the center, resembling a globe or planet, around which delicate dandelions appear to float, their seeds scattered by an invisible breeze. The pastel hues, ranging from beige to pale blue, give the whole a sense of lightness and serenity. The quadrangular elements placed symmetrically at the four cardinal points of the work add an intriguing narrative dimension. These small windows seem to enclose distinct images or scenes, inviting the viewer to further engage in the interpretation of the painting. They can symbolize different perspectives or moments frozen in time, surrounding the central circle as if to tell an evolving story. The texture of the canvas is remarkably detailed, with subtly applied splashes and shading, demonstrating impressive technical mastery. These details add to the visual depth of the work, giving it a complexity that rewards careful observation. This painting is a shining example of the harmony between abstraction and reality. The dandelions, although depicted in a stylized manner, are instantly recognizable, embodying the fragility and ephemeral beauty of nature. The work, through its balance between the central circle and the scattered elements all around it, evokes universal themes such as the cycle of life, temporality, and the connection between different moments or spaces. In conclusion, this painting is a poetic testament to the delicacy and interconnectedness of nature, captured with impressive artistic sensitivity. It engages the viewer not only visually, but also emotionally and intellectually, inviting deep reflection on the themes it evokes.
Presentation
“A painting in the colors of dreams":
Landscapes bathed in fog, inhabited by unknown birds, fugitive dragonflies, cherry trees frozen by winter. Fantasy Japan, endless roads of Indiana, lined with telegraph poles and traveled by the ghosts of Fargo. Milky perspectives of uncertain lands: Caribbean, Siam or Madras de Deus. Mysterious lands with names forgotten or mistreated by history, lands of illusions and mirages. The list could go on...
If Maylis hides her compasses, gears or nautical charts in her paintings, it is perhaps to help us find our routes. The countries she shows us resemble those of Jules Verne or Stevenson, impossible to reach because they are at the outer borders of our imagination. We think we are going through them but we are only dreaming about them.
Secret words of Zen calligraphy, antique patinas, subtle glazes of the old walls of Tuscany: Maylis Bourdet's composite images are inspired by journeys that are sometimes feverish, sometimes still...
The air is present there, it never stops vibrating, charged with dust or electricity. Nothing moves here, but everything is transformed: a pond in Vendôme looks like a lake in Kyoto; a high-altitude path in the Pyrenees is mistaken for the windy stairs of Minas Morgul and the Malecon of Havana looks like the North Sea on a January afternoon.
The vapors and mists that bathe his canvases are not static, they slide imperceptibly, just at the corner of the eye, at the limits of our ability to see.
