Description
This vibrant and dynamic artwork is an explosion of color and form. It features grotesque figures in the Neo-Expressionist style, evoking a raw emotional intensity. Thick, black outlines delineate each character, accentuating their imposing presence against a chaotic, textured background. Vivid hues of red, blue, and green collide and blend, creating a captivating visual whirlwind. The combination of abstract patterns and human features gives the whole an intriguing complexity. The exaggerated facial expressions add an almost narrative dimension, engaging the viewer in a silent conversation. The bold use of layering and scraping emphasizes the frenetic energy of the composition, while the contrast between repetition and uniqueness of forms reflects an underlying tension. This is a work that challenges with its audacity.
Presentation
Aboudia represents in his paintings things he has witnessed during the months of war: violent crowds, terrified civilians, dead people, weapons... His paintings impress by their colourful, wild, childlike style and the very large formats; they are sometimes up to four meters long. His works are inspired by the graffiti on the walls of Abidjan made by young people expressing their anger or their dreams.
Like a street painter, Aboudia captures the energy in the streets of Abidjan; he often creates series of paintings. He is one of the rising starts of African.
