Walk around the city- (based on Natalia Goncharova), Circa 2010

"Walk Around the City" by the esteemed Ukrainian artist Viktor Konotopsky, inspired by the bold and theatrical style of Natalia Goncharova, is a vibrant depiction of early 20th-century urban life. The painting captures a fleeting moment on a city street, where a stylish woman in elegant attire passes by a horse-drawn carriage. Konotopsky skillfully uses flat, saturated color blocks and strong contours — trademarks of Goncharova's Neo-Primitivist aesthetic — to reduce the scene to its essential visual rhythms. The crimson ground, stylized horse, and minimal facial details evoke both modernity and nostalgia. The work reflects the artist's intention to convey the contrast between societal roles and class — the poised, self-contained woman on foot, and the working figure driving the carriage. There's also a theatrical stillness, as if the characters are caught between movement and tableau, embodying the quiet poetry of city life. Konotopsky invites us to view the city not only as a place of action but as a living stage where tradition and modernity co-exist.
