Description
1707
"City Life" by acclaimed Ukrainian artist Viktor Konotopsky, created in the spirit of Alexandra Exter, is a vivid celebration of urban dynamism rendered through Cubo-Futurist geometry and radiant color. The painting captures a vibrant and rhythmically fragmented cityscape—soaring towers, interlocking bridges, and cascading rooftops pulse with angular movement and overlapping planes. Konotopsky reconstructs the city as a mosaic of architectural energy, borrowing from Exter's theatricality and her signature fusion of form, color, and velocity. Using bold contrasts of deep blues, sunny yellows, and fiery reds, the artist evokes a modern metropolis in perpetual motion. The dramatic angles and intersecting perspectives suggest a city that is not static but alive—breathing, building, expanding. Through this work, Konotopsky expresses the tension and harmony of contemporary urban life. He reflects on the beauty and chaos of human innovation, the overlap of history and progress, and the poetic abstraction of daily experience in a space defined by creativity and complexity. The city becomes not just a place, but a force.
Presentation
Viktor Konotopsky was born in 1967 in the village of Maleshkovka, Nedrigailovsky district, Sumy region.
Graduated from the Kharkiv State Art School and the Faculty of Arts of the Saratov State Pedagogical University named after Makarenko.
Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, and an artist in the advertising field.
In the 90s, he lived and worked in Poland (Krakow and Szczecin) and St. Petersburg.
Viktor had many temptations to catch some fashionable artistic disease, but he remained himself.
Judging his painting by the standards of world artistic fashion is as absurd as declaring love with the memorized words of a popular literary hero. In this sense, it is naive, but the naivety of a professionally educated person. His paintings are realistic, although stylized. The landscapes are easily recognizable, but they contain a generalization leading to an image.
